DOS-PROMPT> VIEW
_________________________________________________________________
Clockwork VIEW is a memory-resident file-viewer, for viewing all
kinds of ASCII and binary files.
This version of VIEW has been placed in the Public Domain by
Clockwork Software. That means that you are welcome to use it
yourself and to pass it on to friends for their use, but you must
not sell it.
---------------
Installing VIEW
---------------
Type "VIEW" at the DOS prompt (or include "VIEW" in AUTOEXEC.BAT)
to install the program in memory. VIEW occupies only about 13.5k
of RAM.
-------------
Removing VIEW
-------------
Type "VIEW REMOVE" at the DOS prompt to remove VIEW and release
the memory. Note that other resident programs (TSRs) installed
above VIEW may lock it into place, so you might have to remove
them first.
-----------
Action Keys
-----------
VIEW is supplied with "RightShift + Spacebar" action keys. Press
both keys together to call and to dismiss the program.
The action keys can be changed by pressing "A" for Action, and
saved as defaults for future occasions provided VIEW.COM is in
the current directory.
If you forget what the action keys are, attempting to re-install
the program will display your current settings.
------------
File Viewing
------------
Load a file for viewing by pressing F3. You may select an
ambiguous file specification (using ???s and *s) and select any
drive or path.
You can drive around your file using a combination of:
DownArrow, UpArrow, PgUp, PgDn, Home and End.
Press F1 or ? to see the help file. It replaces any other file
you may have been viewing at the time.
---------------
Toggle Switches
---------------
There are three switches which control the way the file is
displayed:-
HEX-MODE:
File data can be viewed in ASCII or hexadecimal mode to choice.
The "H" key toggles between modes while maintaining roughly the
same position in the file.
WRAP:
In ASCII display mode you may select whether lines longer than 80
characters are displayed on one line (with right-end lost), or
wrapped onto subsequent lines. This option is toggled with the
"W" key.
GRAPHICS:
You may select whether characters above ASCII(128) are folded or
shown as IBM graphics. CRLFs are also displayed, and TAB
characters expanded or not according to the Graphics mode. This
option is toggled with the "G" key.
-------
Colours
-------
There is a choice of 4 colour schemes, Mono, 1, 2 and 3. To call
the colors menu, press the "C" key. Your chosen colours are also
saved when you save the action keys to VIEW.COM.
